Public speaking is a requirement for alot of pharmacy schools that I've seen. My first choice for pharmacy school is Rutgers, which does NOT have public speaking as a requirement for admission. But other schools that I have researched, like Florida, Midwestern-Glendale, and UCSF to name a few, do have public speaking as a requirement. My plan is to get into Rutgers, and I'm confident that I will do so. But if I don't I will apply to a school that has public speaking as a pre-req. But here's the catch, I go to Rutgers as a pre-pharm student, and in order to take public speaking you have to take a ton of pre-req's....How do these schools expect me to take this class if I can't take all the pre-req's in time? Are there other speech classes that are acceptable? Does anybody else have a similar experience with this, at Rutgers or elsewhere? It's just frustrating because I am going back for a fifth year to finish my sciences and I cannot let one public speaking requirement hold me back. Thanks again...

Usually just about any communication class fills the requirement (call the school to check!). Try "speech", "public speaking" "interpersonal communication" etc. You can always take it at a community college or other school too.

I took mine at a community college near my university.

I think UCSF lets you substitute Interpersonal Communication for Public Speaking. It's an introductory speech class at community colleges.

Just as a side note. I would not recommend attending the rutgers pharmacy program if you are a current student with a different major. They overextended themselves in the acceptance department for the past few years with the 2+ program. Acceptance for the quality of the school is just not worth it. However, it is worth attempting a shot via the college to college transfer (its done completely online and is autonomous). If you are serious though, and have good grades you may want to attend a nearby school (like the philidelphia school of pharmacy). But thats just me. But again, definantly attempt the transfer via the college to college transfer option on the website.
