I have presented my research at a couple of scientific conferences. Do these count as publications?

Also, a doctor that I have shadowed offered to let me help him write the intro to a patient case report so I can have my name published somewhere. I think it's cool to be able to do something like this, but would this be something I would put on my application? Especially considering that I did not see the patient myself when shadowing, and the intro is like a couple of paragraphs.

First question: No

Second Question: Why not? GO for it!

Research presented at conferences does not count as publications, but you should still put them on your AMCAS (I think there is a section for "posters/talks" or something like that.)

If the doctor puts you on the case report as an author you should certainly put in on your application. Just make sure you know (or learn) the report well and in a way that you can talk about it knowledgeably at an interview.

"Presentations"

Sometimes poster presentation abstracts will get published in a journal. I presented at a conference in Orlando as an undergrad, and got a first author abstract in Developmental Biology without even knowing it would end up there. It at least gave me something more official to list on my AMCAS when I was talking about my undergrad thesis (I was in the process of submitting a paper during the application period so I couldn't list a full published article because it hadn't been accepted....and actually was rejected the first time around...so let's not talk about it again haha). It's good to show the level of involvement you had in your project as the lead of an area of interest rather than just an assistant to a postdoc or something.

Good luck! And take Offer #2.
