Publishing a case study

My PI gave me a project last summer using someone's blood and originally we were going to publish our findings, but after writing a rough draft, my PI thinks it would be better publish the results as a case study. Is their a difference (one better than the other) between publishing a case study vs. some research findings? The paper will basically be research findings in the form of a case study using a specific individual for the case study, so I really don't see a difference between the two... is there any?

A case study usually describes some phenomenon in a small number of patients (often just one), which although not statistically significant, communicates an interesting finding. If there is only one patient being described, then a case report is appropriate.
