One of my professors is one of the leading experts on Alzheimer's Disease and I'm currently in the process of writing a review focusing on an aspect of Alzheimer's. I would be the first author and he would be the second author. I'm confident he'll be able to publish it in a good journal.

Although being 1st author in a review paper isn't as amazing as being 1st author in original research, would med schools still be somewhat impressed especially if I got it published in a good journal?

Absolutely, any research/publications are good. No need to fret.

It's not *AS* good as being first on original research, but it's still plenty good and worth listing! Well done reviews are needed and respected.

Your review article will help you immensely. Obviously it's not as amazing as having a first-author paper with original research, but its way better than not having anything at all. You're definitely ahead of the curve if you get published- congrats!
