I have been accepted to UPS, and am interviewing with George Fox this coming Saturday. I know I am definitely getting ahead of myself, but if I am in the position to make a decision to choose between the two, I feel that it would be a tough one for me. After the interview at George Fox I will be driving to Tacoma to check out Puget sound's campus, so that may help with the decision making.

Just wanted to hear from anyone who may have an opinion on both of these two schools. Also, if anyone knows the first and/or ultimate NPTE pass rate for George Fox that information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

UPS has a better foundation for DPT. George Fox is relatively new even though they are accredited.

To be honest, I am not a fan of New Berg where George Fox is located. I've been there a few times to shadow the PT I follow and New Berg is extremely small. I personally would not enjoy being there for three years, however that may be different for you. As for the education, I am sure its not better then UPS (not to say George Fox is bad), this is just an assumption based off when George Fox's DPT was established. Again, I know nothing about the curriculum there.

I am from Portland, and I did not apply to George Fox. I put a lot of emphasis on life outside of school. Given the chance to go to a more established school for a DPT in a better location, I would personally pick UPS. I have absolutely nothing against George Fox, I just dislike New Berge with a passion.

Congrats on getting into UPS! They're both great schools so you couldn't go wrong at either one. I do have a 2 friends that currently attend GFU. One is in his 3rd year and the other is in his 2nd year. They both tell me that the difference for them in choosing GFU was that they genuinely buy into the concept of a family culture within the cohort. From the top down, they make every effort to make sure everyone is getting as much help and support as they can possibly offer while making sure no one is left behind. When I visited campus, my interaction with them seemed to reflect this claim too. So if you went to GFU you at least know that you would get all the support you could possibly need in a family-like environment.

But like I said, you really can't go wrong.

Thank you guys very much for the input so far, would love to hear other people's opinions if they're familiar with both schools! At a glance the George Fox curriculum appears to be more attractive to me personally, but obviously that doesn't mean everything. On the other hand Puget Sound is much more established. Anyways, I will ask what the first class's NPTE pass rate when I am their on Saturday as that will give me a little better idea.

When you hear what GFU's pass rate is will you please post it? I asked a current student on the day I interviewed, but she did not know. I do not know much about the UPS program, but I was not impressed with my GFU interview. The day was not well organized and the interview was impersonal.

Thank you for the information 🙂 if I find out the first time pass rate from last year's class I will definitely post it!

From what I understand GFU won't have their NPTE pass rate available until July this year. Their first cohort just graduated in 2015 and a few of them have yet to take the exam, which is preventing them from releasing their pass rate (since they don't even know what it is yet).

So i'm trying to wrap my head around UPS's curriculum. When removing all clinical experience credits, the program is 60 credits compared to George Fox's 92 credits (not including clinicals, 127 with), and many physical therapy schools have much more. I understand UPS has an onsite clinic to allow students to get their feet wet early on, but it worries me that there are only 60 credits of didactic work(1 UPS unit = 4 semester credits). I do have to say though that I they have a 95% and 100% first time and ultimate NPTE pass rate respectively, so they are definitely doing something right.

Here's a curriculum comparison.

Congrats on the acceptance! Even though I'm waitlisted at a few other schools and was offered an interview at another, I think I'm going to commit to Puget Sound because I've always wanted to live in the Pacific Northwest. Anyhow, in regards to your question, I think the units are just broken down differently at UPS. And as you stated, with an ultimate pass rate of 100%, I think all courses needed to pass the NPTE and become a successful PT will be offered 🙂

90% is what I was told. So assuming that's last year's first time NPTE pass rate.
