Puking

Work for a chain, independent, hosp., etc.?
When do you call in sick?
Do you feel guilty if the store opens late because your sick?
Did you ever leave early because you were sick, closed the store early and had noone to legally cover you?
Sick? Sick? No such thing in retail......Pharmacists are not allowed to get sick.

Hmm. "No pharmacist shall be sick without our permission."
Reminds me of the book "The Ropemaker." (Good fantasy book, BTW). In a certain kingdom, people were not allowed to die without the permission of the emperor!
But seriously, shouldn't there be a floater for such situations?

awww you kill me!!!!My first thought when I saw this thread title was, "the school year hasn't even started yet, and ALREADY with the puking??"
I once worked with a (C&S verified) strep throat, T= 102.5 F because there was nobody to cover, which is one of the reasons I hardly work retail any more. (Bonus: I got to fill my own antibiotic script. And I gave myself a break on the fee.)

I do, huh?awww you kill me!!!!
...I don't know a lot of things.
When cognative ability is impaired or when you are an inpatient.
Totally makes sense, but that's not the reality. When cognative ability is impaired or when you are an inpatient.
Another working sick story: I had the flu, and took one day off when my temp hit 104 F, but went in still sick. I was mixing doses of methadone for patients who were no longer at the clinic.
I ended up developing pleurisy. I was no longer feverish, but was working with what felt like broken ribs.
I'm suspecting health care tends to attract people who push themselves too hard and in general tend to ignore their own health.
I have never had a problem calling in sick. Our scheduler checks if there are any extra middle shift pharmacists that she can pull to cover the shift and if not, the shift goes up for grabs as over-time for anyone who wants it....which in my district there are a lot of pharmacists who like working for the OT pay.
I can't believe some of you have been told that you HAVE to go into work sick. That's pathetic treatment.

Last summer (i.e. 2007) I had to go home sick from work once - I was unaware that I had a double kidney infection and I suddenly spiked a fever and nearly passed out while helping a patient. It took 3 weeks of antibiotics for me to kick the infection (I also ended up passing a kidney stone during this time - there's no way in hell I would have stayed at work during that process).
I still got a lot of hassle from the pharmacist I was working with that day and I'm no longer really welcome to work in that store. It's stupid, but there's not much that I can do about it.
