i'm an intern who has spent much time debating future fellowship possibilities. i finished an ICU month fairly recently and realized that i LOVED it!

BUT...the fellows work hard. i don't mind working hard but i definitely want to enjoy my life outside of the hospital, too.

in your experience at your institution, are pulm/ccm fellows crazy busy (ours are cardiologist-level busy at all hours!) or is there a realistic chance at having a life too?

also, what are your thoughts on job schedules after fellowship? i recognize that there are all sorts of arrangements but i'm just looking for general opinions. our ccm faculty seem to be insanely busy, at least when they're on service. what's it like at your place?

I met a fellow at one of the hospitals from my med school who had landed what sounded like a pretty nice gig. He was doing a cc only fellowship.

From what I remember he was at a community hospital with something like 7 days on 14 days off. Had to be there 12 hrs on his on days. Then had to be available in 20 minutes for the remainder of the day but the hospitalist could admit the patients to the ICU and call him if needed. He never said what the salary was but when the academic CC attending at our hospital heard about the schedule and the salary he was clearly envious...
