I am an FMG . Presently R2 in an University program. Applied on Jan 12. Applie d to 123 programs because I was really unsure how to grade a program.Heard that the name of the University really doesn't matter about the quality of the training. that was the reason for such a large number. received invites from cleveland clinic, OSU, MUSC, Iowa, dartmouth-hitchcock, . rejects from Wash U, U missouri ( due to my visa as per the email, UC San diego(visa as per email), Univ Michigan( uncompetitive app), U penn ( visa issues). hope this information helps the members to gauge the trend.

FMG from community program.
No visa issues and with more than descent scores, letters.
Lots of research with publications on non-PnCC stuff.

Applied to 70... just cause I had no clue what to expect.
So far:
3 rejections (Wash U, Univ Colorado, South Car)
3 interviews (UTMB, OHSU, Henry-Ford)

Things getting kinda slow and I'm getting kinda nervous

D

Anyway Gordo, a friend of mine applied to UPMC and got an interview via (snail) mail.

thanks wannabe broncher!! I, too, am in similar situation as you and i am sure others are too. No word from programs which others are hearing both rejects and interviews. Not sure if good/bad. Either they havent gotten to our application or maybe our application hasent gotten to them? its still a bit early. if no news by mid feb, i will prob contact the ones i have high interest in.

Int: U of Florida via email.

I contacted several places last week, and the overwhelming response was along the lines of "We just getting into all the applications. Wait another 1-3 weeks."

thanks boomer.. it sure would be nice if they didnt spread this thing over 6+ months... oh well. hopefully, we all get a match!!

int: temple via email

This process can be very slow.
This is the second year I am applying and I remember receiving emails for interviews in march/april last year. I got an interview at Cedars Sinai. About 8 rejections. Waiting for the rest. I really don't know what to expect after going through this last year.

Interviews - Tufts, UConn via email
Rejects - UPenn via email
question for Spec...if you don't mind me asking...how many interviews? or how many programs did you rank last year?

hey broncher
I had 8 interviews and ranked all of them. I thought that I had interviewed well. I have great letters, one of which is from the pioneer of TBNA. I was a chief resident and I have 12 poster/publications and experience in bronchoscopy. Only probs are being an FMG and coming from a community program. A few of them told me that I was being ranked high. However, on match day I was unlucky.

evening

About to start interviews now...any advice on how to get the most out of the interview day?😱

Thanks for sharing the info Spec...good luck this year.

I have a question for the group...I was unable to select an "available" interview date for a program (a date when multiple candidates will be there)..they agreed to another date (with me alone). Will this affect my application/interview in a negative way?

int: minnesota

Completed 2 interviews so far

Sounds like from spec we may need at least 8+ interviews....

wantabebroncher - i have heard from some programs that interviewing alternative dates is not a big deal as long as you interview w/ PD and/or cheif. Also, if you have have research intersts that a specific faculty may be your future mentor. Otherwise, some interviews only have 1-4 interviewers only anyway.. It prob wont be as organized so keep that in mind.

Cubby10- it all depends on what you are looking for. just make sure that program has it. some are strong in everything, others maybe dont have transplant, or sleep, or pulm htn etc... Talk to fellows!!! All in all, mine have been very laid back. a few standard questions like -why PCC or what are future goals, but in general it was simply a conversation with another doc. I have been pleasantly suprised

Invited to interview:

Columbia Univeristy
U. Conn.
Mt. Sinai
NYU
Montefiore
Brown
St. Luke's Roosevelt

No rejections yet...

Finally another one: Texas A&M.
Gordo: Even if you have less interviews, there is a chance that you can still match. My friend had 5 interviews and he matched. I haven't heard from >40 programs yet. Most of them are still looking through the applications and will offer interviews all the way till the end of april. I'm worried about the programs that tend to offer postions to their internal candidates. I remember interviewing at a place where they had already taken one of their own. That left one position which 26 of us were competing for. This place had a record of taking their own residents for the past 5 years.

7 interviews
14 rejections and waiting on alot more...

based on what spec is saying I ma starting to worry...
8 interviews and did not match?
with good letters, research and chief year under his belt?

I am also FMG rom comm hospital, so I guess I am in the same boat.

Hey guys.

Anyone with input for the further programs?

1. Cedars-Sinai in LA
2. Loma Linda, CA
3. Cooper, Camden, NJ
4. UTMB, Galveston
5. UIC, IL
6. OHSU, OR
7. Henry-Ford, MI

Thanks,
D

Loma linda used to have one spot. They expanded to 2 last year. When you interview, they will have you sit with 8 faculty members. The track record for LL is that prior to the expansion, their last 4 or 5 fellows were internal candidates. The 3 fellows I met were all residents at LL.

Interview at U of AZ by email
Interviewed today at Mayo

pay attention to the fellows at each program - if they're miserable, be wary and be yourself! relax....

Not kidding
We were at cook county ,interviewing last year.
One of the idiotic applicants ask the reluctant middle eastern, stressed out fellow who was giving us a tour," Are you happy here?"
" Ahmed" stops , turns around and looks at this idiot (PCCM applicant) and says " define Happiness" which our friendly neighbourhood Idiot starts doing .
My question was answered.
CCH went to the 13 th position.
Mind you its not a bad hospital- but most likely you will graduate with a patulous rear end.
sorry.

Has anyone heard from MGH? interview or reject?

I wouldn't have minded a spot at CCH. At least they take FMG's. I'm used to working hard throughout my career. Some of us just don't have the luck.

In last 2 weeks only 2 more rejections: Thomas Jefferson and UT-memphis via email. It seems that most of the pole position offers have been sent out. I still havent heard from 7 big name places, though. Anyone else heard much last week or so?

I heard from Yale last week via email for interview
and today from BU via email. Is it late now to get these interviews? Did I get them after the "first cut"? Well I don't know or care...just happy.
