Anyone else on the Purdue Alternate List? Found out on Saturday, March 11th. Not thrilled with this decision because I am an in-state resident. Any information regarding their waitlist (like how big is it, is there a seperate list for in-state and outta-state, chances of getting the nod, etc.). Please post.

Thanks!

I don't know about Purdue but I know that University of Illinois has a separate list for in-state and outta-state. I am on the alternate list at University of Illinois but just found out that I got accepted from Purdue. It is weird because I am a IL resident 😕 !

Good Luck!!

Eh. Stranger things have happened. 🙄

LongEvans & 2Bsure, do you guys know if you are going to accept to Purdue yet? I'm just wondering.... b/c adenovirus and I are both waiting for slots to open up.... just wondering if you guys had decided yet or are leaning towards one school or the other, that's all! Good luck to both of you!

LongEvans, I can relate because I am accepted to Michigan State yet waitlisted at my state school (Purdue). I am so sick of Purdue and their myopic selection process. If they do accept me in a few weeks or months I am 90% sure I will turn them down. Tuition being 2x cheaper is the ONLY reason I would even entertain going there. Great program from what I've heard, but sorry the earth doesn't spin around Purdue! I don't think their adcom got that memo...

Here, here! And to the bastards at Purdue who have rejected me one too many times, I say screw you guys, I'm going to Michigan! 😉 (...or maybe one of the schools I will hear from at the end of the week, but whatever!)

Hi Sweetheart982 and adenovirus,
My first choice is University of Illinois (b/c of in-state tuition). If I get an offer from Illinois, I won't go to Purdue. Are you both outta-state or in-state? I hope they don't have a separate list, so you guys can get my spot if I turn Purdue down.

I am fairly sure I will not choose Purdue but I am a California resident. Hopefully there is one alternate list so you get a seat. If it makes you feel better Davis didn't even give me an interview and I have a 3.8 GPA and I'm a resident! Do they tell you where you are on the alternate list?

I didn't apply to Purdue, but there seem to be many people (including myself) who were admitted to out-of-state schools, but denied by their own in-state schools.

I am an in-state resident and I'm pretty sure adenovirus is too, also the committee doesn't tell you what number you are on the list nor how many people are on the list nor if there are two separate (1 in state and 1 out of state) lists. In the alternate status letter it states in really bold letters that "your ranking on the alternate list is confidential to the Admissions Committee and will not be shared with you." From the 3 doctors (all purdue grads.) that I work with they all told me that in their class they had a hand full of people get in that were on the alternate list, not many though, so I'll have to wait and see......

hey DVM2b... since you live in SOuthern Cali, and you at all considering Western University. I had an interview there, and really hoping I get in. I also got accepted to Purdue, and so, would turn them down if I got into Western.
Just wondering if you were considering it, and what your opinion was on the school, curriculm, new-ness (if that makes any sense... and if you would turn Purdue down to go there.

I go to Cal Poly Pomona so I have had Western pushed on me since I was a freshman. I did apply and interviewed at Western but I really only applied as a backup school. I think their program sounds good but it is really new. I know a few people that go there and they all have differing opinions some like it and some hate it. I think that goes with any program. I know when I was at the interview they talked about how they use Cal Poly for experience what they failed to tell you is how Cal Poly's facilities are old and dilapidated and have a limited number of animals. I also worked for some of the equine vets that take around Western students and they explained they cannot allow the students to get a whole lot of hands on experience because it is a liability. I don't know how much of that you would get in a teaching hospital so maybe it is not so bad. I was born and raised about 30 minutes from Western so I am ready to get out of here. The housing prices are out of control so that is a draw back about moving into the area. Also Pomona is not a safe place to live. If you decide to go to Western look into housing in Chino Hills, Diamond Bar or other surrounding areas.

hey there.. yeah i see exactly what you're saying about the school. I am just not sure what the best choice is.. especially since I have other options. I liek the idea of the new curriculum, but like anything else, what sounds good on paper isn't always the case in practice.

As far as the housing question.. I did have a concern about that. I was pushed into thinking that Claremont is also a great place to live.. is that true? And how far away is it from the school. Will I be heading with or against traffic in my morning commute?

Claremont is very nice but on the expensive side. It is close to Pomona and you probably would not have to take the freeway. Chino Hills, Montclair, Phillips Ranch and Claremont are within 10-15 minutes of Western and you can take side streets.

Just curious to know if there are any out of state applicants that applied to Purdue and got the famous alternate status letter, I was just wondering what it said if it said the same stuff as the one I received (in state applicant), in regards to status on waitlist or when they would let you know anything.
I'll be patiently waiting in the meantime or trying to 🙄
