I understand what the diagnostic articulation represents (relationship between maxillary and mandibular arches when condyles are in most anterosuperior position in glenoid fossae) and I understand the steps in achieving a record of CR.

What I am not sure of, is the purpose of mounting casts in CR for "diagnosis" versus mounting in "MI" for the purpose of 'treatment'. What can you see in CR that you cannot see in MI?

Thanks in advance

Casts mounted in CR allow you to see how the teeth come together in CO before the slide into MI. If you are trying to rebuild a patient's dentition, with a set of dentures or a lot of crowns or implants, you want to have the casts in CR so that, if possible, you can set their occlusion to be the same as centric relation--that way, you can eliminate the centric slide from CO to MI.
