I know this shouldn't make any difference, but should we carry a purse and a portfolio to interviews or just a portfolio? What is usually the norm?

Good question. I have also debated the situation. Man purse and portfolio or just portfolio.

I've been to one interview so far. None of the male's carried anything, I don't remember the females carrying anything, but I could be wrong about that.

I carried a purse and a portfolio. All of the girls on my interview called both as well. So if you're thinking about both, then it's not a bad idea.

But whatever you're comfortable with.

On my interviews, most guys carried a portfolio or nothing. Schools often give you a info. package so you'll have something in hand. Girls often carry a small purse or over the shoulder cuz we need to put our money, cards, and cell phone. I carry a medium size over the sholder so I can put my camera in there as well 😀

I help on interview panels, and I don't think anybody I've interviewed with paid an ounce of attention to whether women were carrying purses or not.

In my interview invitations all of the schools are requiring that interviewees carry a hiking backpack equipped with camping supplies such as a mess kit, a pup tent, sterno, flashlight, solar blanket, a grappling hook, and a 14.5 oz can of Denty More Beef Stew. This seemed very strange to me since the interviews are only a half day and it won't go very well with my suit, but I'm going to do exactly what they have asked me.

lol. i carry a purse and a small notepad or the provided folder by the school. umkc was so nice to us (with their complete folder which had "umkc dentistry" printed on it). They even gave us UMKC Dentistry T-shirts afterward interviews. Too bad i gave it to my brother b.c it was X-large! 🙂 sorry about the off topic thing.

A portfolio is a nice leather folder that typically has a pad of paper to write on and a place for business cards etc. Is that your doggie in the picture? Long haired doxens are the cutest 😍
