Hello guys,

I am ordering my textbooks for my Biology class. My friend used the 6th edition of PURVES: Life: The Science of Biology. However, currently, the latest edition is the 7th edition which my college uses. So I was wondering whether I should buy the new book or if there is not much difference between the two? Thanks, this is a really big help.

Ask the professor for the class.

I kinda do not want to disturb the professors so I was wondering if you students could provide some input.

Thanks

Thats what they are therefore. Plus, I doubt this thread will last long in pre-allo as a discussion of biology textbooks.

quit being such a nervous purves...

(if you watch the simpsons, and know how to pronounce the name correctly, the above should be hilarious)

PURVES? What a funny name....

I had to use th purves 7th ed for the whole year of biology I took. I personaly did not like that book. I COULD NOT learn much from it. I bought an old campbell edition for 13 bucks to help me out.

No, there is not much of a difference, other than a different cover and a few additional pages. You should just save money and buy the 6th edition

6th edition features an experiment by one of my old ecology professors... 7th does not.

I've rented my 6th edition out twice and thus far everyone's been satisfied with it (despite the fact it no longer has a cover).

I had purves and Campbell...wow what a difference. I would not even waste my money with Purves if I had the chance the go back. Campbell is so much more clear and concise and the visuals are WAY better. In conclusion, purves sucks 😀

I have read and used the 6th edition, and in comparison to the 7th there are basically the same except some examples which are used , the basic science is the same.

Yeah one costs about 3 times as much

Basic bio doesn't change that much so go ahead and get the older version. You're not learning cutting edge stuff so the changes were probably just minor revisions and reorganizing chapters.

I am a BANANA! Hooray for Don Hertzfeldt.

What class are you taking?

The pre-med bio course uses Campbell
