Pushing back Deposits?

I have my first deposit due on January 15th but also will be hearing back from another school by the 20th. Is it acceptable to for my deposit date to be pushed back until after the 20th? Has anyone successfully done this? I am very excited about my acceptance I have but wish I wouldn't have to pay the $1000 until after I find out from this other school.

I know it’s been a while, but did you ask for an extension and were they okay with it?
