Hi guys,

I have an interview which I scheduled for late November at a school that I'm somewhat indifferent about. Since I've already interviewed at 5 schools and have another later this month, I'm wondering if it is a good idea to reschedule this interview for a date after Dec 2nd? I wanted to just cancel future interviews outright to save money but I posted earlier about this and I was told universally to go to all interviews. So basically I'll hold on to this one but only do it if I fail to get anywhere else.

What do you guys think ? Thanks.

I know I may march to the beat of a different drummer--I did only apply to 5 schools, after all--but I say that if you're truly indifferent about the school, postpone. Save yourself some potential dough. I know you feel great about the interviews you've already had. Although nothing in this process is assured, 5 shots at an acceptance is pretty dang great. (And your interview with your state school went particularly well, right? Congrats!)

I wouldn't cancel as your first option. Just send an extremely courteous e-mail and ask them if there was anyway you could schedule sometime after your semester ended. You might be surprised at how amenable the are.

But... if they do NOT let you reschedule (and I really couldn't see that happening), I don't think you're crazy for canceling. You know if you'd REALLY attend that school if you were accepted. Ask yourself: If it was the ONLY school you got in to, would you go, or would you rather wait another year and try again? I don't think this situation is at all going to apply to you, but just consider it.

🙂

Glimmer,

Thanks for your input. I think your advice is very reasonable and I'll call them on Monday to get a later date. It's really annoying not being able to get in until Dec 2nd. I think with medicine they start accepting in october which is really nice. Otherwise I'd just cancel outright, and also the one I have next week as well !

You are very brave applying only to 5 schools. If I did what you did that I'll probably only have a single interview right now. Good thing I'm not too particular about which school I attend. My state school? Not a word from them 😕

Asking for a post December interview if you were given a pre-December slot is a the same as telling the school that they are not your first, second or even third choice. Frankly, why not just tell them they are your last choice? That way at least you'll have something interesting to talk about in case you end up having to go that interview.

If you've already received 5 interviews, I think you are quite safe. But keep in mind, my gf did the same thing last year and pushed her late Nov interview back after Dec and the school withdraw her interview invites without a warning.

I'm in the same boat as you. It's really hard to keep going to these interviews because:

1) It's super tiring...especially when it's on the other side of the country.
2) It's super expensive.

I'm still contemplating whether I want to go to a recent invite myself (interview would literally be end of November) but I really don't want to regret not getting in anywhere just in case. Although from my other interviews I feel I'm pretty safe at at least one school for acceptance but I still feel like I should go. You never know when a school will surprise you.

Would be bad if I tell them I have to do post-december due to affecting fall term grade? Professor taking attendance and just the attendance portion of the grade dropped to below B due to interviews..

I did the same thing yesterday haha. I have 6 interviews as well and my 6th choice I rescheduled for post dec. I am hoping the same as you, I hope I don't have to go. I went from a a nov interview to February.....whatever, I shouldn't have applied to that school in the first place. I have a friend who has had 4 interviews and she turned down one. Don't worry about it. You will get into one school

I pushed 4 to after December as well. I think you'll be fine!
