Hi all,

I was recently nominated for an award somewhat related to my research but did not receive it. Is this something appropriate to put on my CV or not?

Thanks!

This is just a personal opinion, but I wouldn't put it down unless it were some really prestigious thing to be nominated in and of itself. Don't fluff a CV if you can help it.

+1. It's also important WHO nominated you. If it was like, your department only gets to nominate one person for this award, being nominated can be a big deal.

Well, I was nominated by an advisor/prof outside my department and made it to the unofficial "finalist" stage (invited to the awards dinner, etc).

If you were nominated but did not receive the award, I would NOT put it down. It just makes you look desperate.

However, if you were nominated AND received the award (but declined it for whatever reason, such as getting a better award) , then by all means (I at least would) put it down ( XXXX Fellowship, 2010-2011, award declined) or something to that effect.

I wouldn't do it, either. At least not at the undergrad level. Plenty more opportunities will come your way next year during grad school.
