1 cytoplasm: glycolysis
2 matrix: TCA cycle and pyruvate to acetyl CoA
3 inner membrane: electron transport chain

pyruvate decarboxylation occurs in the cytosol since pyruvate was just a fresh product of glycolysis, on the way to the mitochondria, pyruvate decarboxylates in the cytosol.

decarboxylation occurs after pyruvate enter the mitochondria..

This is incorrect. Pyruvate is actively transported into the mitochodria where it is converted to Acetyl CoA. CO2 then diffuses out of the cell.

That is why in Eukaryote cell, NADH come from pyruvate decarboxylation only produce 2ATP because one of the ATP is used for active transport pyruvate into mitochondria. In prokaryote cell, this NADH produce 3ATP because they do not have mitochondria.

oh wow. i learned that it was in the cytosol. but if it appears on the DAT i think i'll choose mitochondria then..

Yeah, that is the distinction whether glycolysis process will produce 36 or 38 ATP---that is where the 2 ATP difference come from. I am pretty certain the decarboxylation of pyruvate takes place in the michondrial matrix.... For instance, lets not forget what happens upon fatty acid beta degradation that also occurs in the matrix.
