So i didn't do so well on the april test (26O 🙁 ). So I am wondering if you say on the AMCAS application that you are retaking the August test will schools even start sending you 2ndaries and asking for interviews. Is it better to just say NO on AMCAS where it asks if you will be taking Aug. test, and see if shcools will even look at your application? I thought since i have a set of scores, that my application would be seen or put on hold, but schools would send out 2ndaries and maybe even an interview, but my friend told me that he made a mistake by saying YES on the AMCAS to taking the august test.

I'm just a little worried now cause i submitted the application, and regret that I put yes.
If you put NO will you have to tell the individual schools that you are retaking the August test. That'll at least give you the chance to interview early with a set of scores and still retake the test.

thanks

It depends on the school. Some schools (especially those that don't prescreen) will send sec. apps. out regardless of what you answer. They might ask you if you are taking the Aug. MCAT - if you say yes, they state they will not look at your application until the scores are received.

Word of caution about marking "No" to the Aug. test date even though you are planning to take the Aug. test. - Some secondaries specifically state that if you tell them you are NOT taking the Aug. MCAT on their secondary, they will consider your application complete and will NOT accept Aug. scores at a later date. Penn State and Georgetown are two that immediately come to mind.

If you tell your schools that you're not taking the August MCAT, then they can only assume that they are to use your previous score to make any and all decisions. If you have a bad score and tell them "no" for the August exam then they will ONLY use the previous score - what other reason would they have not to do so? Crucial decisions regarding whether you get interviews or not are based on your MCAT score, so if you're taking the August exam then tell them that. Otherwise they will go ahead and potentially reject you before you even take the August MCAT, not knowing you're doing so.

Just a warning to you planning to take the August MCAT.....I found it
MUCH more difficult than April.....more questions per section but no added
time.....study hard.....don't think it will be easier because you've already
taken it once....I think they make it harder on purpose.

Sunshine,

How are their more questions per section????? The test is set so that it is the same amount of questions per section. As far as I know. However, I could see where the level of difficulty might be harder.

Except there's a standard number of questions per section...
