I just saw on the latest US News World Report that the average ugrad GPA is 3.23 and a composite score of 24 for the MCAT. Is this really the case? Also, do they like regional applicants from NY, NJ?

As of 3-13-06 stats for MCAT are as follows:
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Philadelphia, PA) Average MCAT: 8.31, 8.04, P, 8.20 total= 24.55

**this does not include the GA campus.

As far as GPA, that last I heard it was a little above 3.3 but im not sure what the exact number was.

I'm from NY and will be attending this fall. Seemed like they liked NY people as far as I could tell. PM me if you have any questions.

PA and Delaware get the most love from PCOM because they are the state schools. yes i know pcom is not in delaware but its the way it is.

yes its the new one that just came out. it includes both allopathic and osteopathic.

Forget all you northener's 🙂...any other southern people matriculating? I might be in the minority on this one. Also, I need to recruit some people to watch college ball with me on Saturdays!!! Just in case its not clear, I'm joking about the "northener's" comment. can't wait to be in Philly!

I'm from Va and I know a couple other people from Va that will be matriculating this fall at PCOM.

I am an MSI at PCOM and althought the majority of the students from from PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD, there are still a fair number of out of state students. I know that during our orientation they told us the class was 50% female and 50% were from Pennsylvania. I know of maybe 30 people off the top of my head from southern and western US in my class. Its not that a school doesn't accept people from the opposite spectrum of the states, its just that they want to give out acceptances to people will most likely attend that school. If your from Philadelphia and get into Des Moines and are waiting on PCOM because that is where you want to go, DMU gave out an acceptance that most likely won't be filled by that student if the student gets into PCOM. Then why would they waste time giving out the acceptance and not give it to someone who would rather go there. This is just my thought, and obviously there are MANY MORE variables that they consider besides the state of residence when considerign a student. So no, its not out of the question, just the adcom usually feel more comfortable you will matriculate if you are close to the school. Again this is just my subjective view so don't let this discourage you. If you convey to the adcom this is where you really want to go and you are willing to make a life chance by moving across the country then I don't see why that would make them not give you an acceptance that they otherwise would.

i think the breakdown for individual mcat scores are more important than the composite. i got rejected and have pretty good stats relative to the averages you listed, and better experience than most applicants (gpa 3.49, mcat 26Q, 9 years critical care nursing) but the breakdown of my mcat, namely my physical science score, i think, was the killer (verbal 11, bio 9 and phy 6). I didn't even get and interview at pcom, but got several acceptances one of which was at western who lists a much higher composite average mcat score...the bottom line is apply to where you want to go and hopefully your profile will fill a spot they are trying to fill. you can use the usnews wp numbers by trying to match which schools value which scores...for example some schools obviously dont value the essay (as evidenced by listing averages of m or even worse) so if you did bad on your essay apply to those...if you rocked the essay but didn't do so good on other sections you may not want to apply to a school like that...because they dont care about that score as much as others.

There are generally a few non-jankees in each class. I went to GT, one of my buddies went to UGA, and there are a few kentuckians too. I know what you mean about no appreciation for real ball up here. Anything outside of the Philly area is ignored 🙄
