Q about Secondaries: If I'm applying to a research heavy school, should my secondaries reflect that?

You're only as "appealing" as you are! 😀.

You are spending a gap year teaching because you love it, while you could be spending it in a lab. No way to spin that into undying devotion to research. Either your entire application will appeal to them or it won't. No sense worrying about your inability to turn yourself into something you are not.

Unless a secondary prompt specifically asks about research or your academic experience in college, I recommend avoiding these topics. This is an opportunity to show us something that is not immediately obvious from your application.
