Although HCM has normal EF (EDV-ESV/EDV), the amount of blood pumped by the heart is less compared to a normal heart. This means that the left side of heart is not keeping up with the blood returning from the lungs. Blood is being backed up in the pulmonary vessels leading to pulmonary edema.
