Hey guys,

Just did a few Qbank questions and one of them said that if a tumor cell loses its MHC class I then it would not be susceptible to killing by our immune system. However, in the Lange immuno section, it says that Natural Killer cells look for cells without MHC class I and kill them. What do you guys think?

Lange is right. Q-bank was lazy when it wrote that answer.

my question is, RBC's and i think sperm cells lack MHC I. Why are these cells not attacked by NK cells?

I had the EXACT same question when I first studied immuno and.....I still don't know why!! If anybody knows...

Theories:
1. They have something on the platlet membrane that inhibits natural killer cells.
2. They have no nucleus or mitochondra, so they can't really undergo apoptosis (doubt this in the main reason because then we would see NK cells atteck RBC's in the blood at all times)

My bad. I fixed it. I'm now at 37 hours.

As for myself, I am soooooooo bored. With my first aid, I've crossed out everything that I think I know already. I'm at the point where it takes me 4 hours to read the uncrossed stuff.

I remember something about although they don't have MHC I for the KIR receptor, they also do not possess the antigen that is recognized by the NKR-PI receptor...and therefore are not attacked.

I also just found this from google, take it as you will......

I have a little less than two weeks. I have a question for you. At the rate I'm going, I may not be able to finish Qbank. Do you think I should just say the heck with it and do First Aid mostly for the last week, or try to cram in as many questions as possible to finish Qbank? How long did you give yourself to just sit and review First Aid? Four hours for the whole thing sounds pretty good!
