Qbank questions to help supplement class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
welcome to medical school lol. you kinda have to teach yourself for boards it seems like

Some kids in my school used uworld qbank first year. I didn't see utility in that until second year. But your money.

We are in the middle of a curriculum change so it's a little complicated. I'm not trying to study for boards yet, and I'd rather not spend too much money, but I'd like to just see how they phrase questions, that's all. Maybe a Qbank isn't the best way to do that.

Throwing my hat in for Rx, but I actually like to use the videos along with Pathoma before doing the questions as board-focused review for individual systems.

how do you all decide "this is the brand that I feel will prepare me best?"

The only issue with qbanks is that they are designed for use after you've completed your preclinical curriculum and as such will often have questions that integrate across disciplines. this becomes less of an issue as time goes by, but it could make it less useful early on, especially in first year. Banks like Rx and Kaplan tend to have fewer integrations than World which is why some people use them earlier in the year.

I would add a vote for Firecracker with classes. While the card review questions aren't boards style, they were very helpful to me, and they do have quite a few qbank style questions too though I didn't use them much. With FC, you can flag topics as you cover them in class so your review questions are more narrowly focused and less likely to waste your time trying to understand a question that integrates something you haven't covered yet.

So firecracker to help with classes...Uworld to study for boards?

Broadly speaking, yes. At some point during second year you will probably want to start doing world questions and/or some other qbank. January of second year is probably about the right time give or take. I used FC all the way through and mostly did World during dedicated prep time with some Kaplan sprinkled throughout second year. Everyone is different though; that's just what worked for me.

RX is great to use along with systems in class. Helpful way to start nailing things down before dedicated.

how often have you been using FC? everyday? I use it and I often get cards/stuff we haven't learned or is too in depth....
I haven't been using it all that regularly tbh...it's actually pretty good for neuro and I have just been using the "study something specific" option as a source of q's. I didn't use it at all for this last neuro test though. And for our first block stuff it's much more in depth on some of the genetic diseases and also has diseases we didn't learn. I thought it was good for anatomy though. So I don't know, the jury is still out!
