QR and PAT scores

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you don't have a solid GPA, strongly consider retaking it.

Although I will say that I had a few friends get in with a 17 PAT and 15,16,17 for QR but they had a strong GPA with a degree.

I also agree with the above post. If you have 3.8+ gpa you might be ok but if you were around the 3.6 or lower i would retake.

i'm hearing mixed things.
many schools and people say the least emphasis is placed on QR and PAT.
- that they're more forgiving to a lower QR and PAT (just want to see you didn't completely bomb)

That is pretty accurate but you have to take into consideration the process of getting the interview and then subsequently getting accepted through the perspective of the institutions.

I knew multiple people that got in with your scores so that isn't the problem. Your scores are along the lines of some of the averages. The problem is with the initial process of getting the interview and your overall GPA. Unfortunately, so many schools weed people out based on their overall GPA therefore it is something we all have to consider.

I am not trying to discourage you but it's better to have a grasp on reality when going through this daunting scenario. I've done it, it's extremely stressful but the competition these days have sky rocketed therefore with factors impeding the process, we have to figure out how to make ourselves stand out. Simple as that! Keep faith and just be ready to retake if you don't find yourself accepted this year.

*Disclaimer - I am not saying all institutions play the weed out game with lower overall GPA's but the people of the administration office have to come up with an efficient process for discovering who they think would make for a great dental student. I have no idea if all schools play that game but from my own experience and others, it seems many schools do. You do have a higher sGPA so that should definitely play to your advantage. Just look at the total numbers for how many people apply to programs vs the accepted students.
