has anyone scored similarly on both tests? i havent taken the DAT or any practice tests yet, but wanted to start a thread so we could maybe have some idea where we stand in this section before any studying (since it's 1/3 of yor AA). anyone who's taken a DAT or practice test and the SAT could you please post your SAT math score and QR scores. thanks.

okay, i'm pretty sure quantitative reasoning is not 1/3 of your academic average, but actually 1/5. reading comprehension, also 1/5. each one of the sciences counts 1/5, and then the PAT is separate.

but in any event... yeah, i imagine there is a correlation. the tests covers pretty much the same material. the dat might even be more "intelligence" based... and by that i mean not just how well you can solve trig problems and algebra equations... but how fast can you do mental math and find shortcuts to problems.

basically, math, specifically that type of math, is my strongsuit. i've taken 2 practice tests and scored 27 and 28 on the QR sections. my ACT math was 35 (out of 36) and SAT math was 760 (out of 800).

790 SAT and 25 QR

Well, if this is going to get into a numbers contest...

800 SAT / 28QR 😎

I would say there definitely is a strong correlation as the exams are very similar and most of us dont get or need additional algebra practice in undergad.

nice scores podil!! 🙂

28 QR (DAT) and 34 on the Reading part of the ACT. The verbal part of SAT isn't like the QR on the DAT...SAT is more vocabulary w/ fill in the blanks and analogies, whereas the ACT's reading section was strictly reading (like the DAT) and had another separate section devoted to grammar.

I took the SATs before 2000, though, so maybe things have changed.

740 on SAT, 30 on QR 🙂

But you know what I talked to one admissions person who said soon they are going to get rid of that part of the exam so most schools don't care much about it. I'm actually going to resit the DAT even though I got 22 AA becuase I want to get over 20s on all section. There is a good chance my QR will go down becuase it will be hard to get 2 30s but I think its better to have an all round good score.

are you sure they are planning on cutting the quantitative reasoning out of the DAT? i haven't heard anything about this...

It would make sense to get rid of this part as I think schools use the DAT to guage how well you would do on the NBDE. Of course, there is no math section the NBDE. In fact, as mentioned before, only the VR is shown to correlate with the boards. So, that section is definitely more important than QR, unless admissions committees aren't aware of this study.
