# (lbs) of jaw breakers: x
# (lbs) of lolly pops: y

x + y = 200 ---> x = 200 - y
36x + 53y = 40*200 = 8000
---> 36(200-y) + 53y = 8000
or 7200 - 36y + 53y = 8000
or 17y = 800
or y = 47 (lbs)

I struggled with those problems too. What I did was went to the library and checked out algebra 2 books. Those books tend to contain these kind of word problems.

Make sure you know these kind of "rates" questions, because they are guaranteed to show up on the DAT.
