If 10 cubic cm of 20% basic is mixed with 20 cubic cm of 40% basic, the percent of basic in the mix is?

Answer: 33 1/3

How is this setup?

Why is it not this? 1000(.2) + 8000(.4) = 9000 X

Not sure, but:

.2 x 10 = 2
.4 x 20 = 8
Total (Part) = 10

Original Total = 10 + 20 = 30

%= Part/Original

%= 10/30 = 1/3 = 33.3 cubic cm

cubic cm | % basic | total

10% soln 10 | .20 | 10(.2)

20% soln 20 | .40 | 20(.4)

mixture 30 | x | 20(.4) + 10 (.2)

30x = 10, x=33 1/3

I think you guys nailed it. Thanks. Stupid me, I dunno why I tried to convert the "cubic" then divide.
