A carton of nails measures 1.5 feet by 1 foot by 15 inches. If each individual box of nails measures 4 inches by 3 inches by 2 inches, what is the maximum number of boxes in a carton?

Answer is 135. Can someone please explain how you get this number? Thanks

convert the carton's dimensions all into inches.

so its 18 inches X 12 inches X 15

find its total volume which is 3240 in^3

the individual boxes are 4x3x2. Volume = 24 inc^3

3240/24 = 135 boxes of nails

Convert everything to inches or to feet. Solve for volume.

1.5 feet by 1 foot by 15 inches is 18 in x 12 in x 15 in = 3240 in.^3
then 4x3x2 = 24 in^3

3240 / 24 = 135

Thanks for the quick responses, but would this only work for volume (fluid) problems? since the boxes are given in dimensions would it still work the same way?
