This is from KBB:

Six people went shopping. Five spent $16 each, the sixth spent $5 more than the average of all six. How much did the last person spend?

A. 20
B. 21
C. 22
D. 23
E. 24

The answer is apparently $22.

Here you go,

Let the average be x, so the 6th person spends x+5

Now Average = Total / N

x = (5(16)+x+5)/6

Since 5 people spend 16 each, their total will be 5(16)

Now solve for x,

x = 80+x+5/6
6x = 85+x
x = 17

Remember, the sixth person spend x+5 = 17+5 = 22
