X sells coat that he buys for 80 for 15%of benefit. Later he adds up another 10% of selling price. Find a single percent mark up equivalent to sum of two successive markups.

15% of 80 is 4 and add that to 80 to get 84. 10 percent of that is 8.4 and add that to the 84 and you get 92.4. So what percent is 80 is 92.4 is the new question? You should know that 8/9 is 87.5%. However, the ratio is greater than 8/9 so therefore the answer has to be less than 87.5%. Without using a calculator, you could eliminate all the wrong answers and find the right one.

However in test the answer is 25 and I don't know why 25????

Maybe when they considered 10% they did 10% of 80 and not 92. Then they'd be adding 92+8 to get 100. Then that would be 20 increase over 80 which is 25%.

But the problem should be more clear and say 10% of the original price.

Your calculation is correct bc the naswer is 26.5 . Thaks again. But how did you calculate dthe last part , which I went wrong. I'm talking about calculation of % ? that gave you final 26.5?

So sorry!! the correct answer is 26.5 and not 25. Sorry !! This might change the whole calculation, but still What I calculated is 23.5.
