Hey all,

First just want to say this is a great community. I love coming onto SDN and reading breakdowns and strategies for the DAT. I have been studying for two months straight now, doing BIO, genchem, orgo, PAT and reading, I left QR for last.

I took Kaplans practice test the other day, scored a 22AA, and a 100% QR... But the questions on there were ridiculously easy.. I could rely on the calculator to supply every answer.. I know my trig functions, so that isn't a problem.

I keep hearing how horrid the calculator is on the real DAT. My question is, will I not be able to rely on it so much? Will it really hurt me if I need it to answer the majority of my questions? Is it really as slow and terrible as everyone says it is?

Took my DAT last Thursday and had no issues with the calculator, which I used a good bit. Worked just as good as the one on my desktop.

Thank you for the response! That really helps me feel better. I feel like I need to be focusing my time on the other sections than on QR, although I will make sure not to neglect it.

My calculator was bad, had to click some buttons 2-3 times for it to work.

But overall the QR was really easy. I got a 21 (96.4%) and still had about ten minutes left.

I only used 2 pi r and pi r ^2 as equations. mostly algebra and a few word problems.

Mine was pretty bad, as well. It took me a few questions to get used to. For my QR section, I blew through it pretty easily with 20 minutes left. However, I did not know my trig functions well (there were about 4) and there was one conerning the area of a cylinder. I really wish I could have thought back to my high school geometry days!

area of a cylinder is nothing more than the area of a circle (x2) plus the area of a rectangle 🙂

and volume is nothing more than the area of the circular face x height.
