Whenever you divide...flip the denominator and multiply by numerator...start with that.

1*[(1-3)/1] = (1-3)
1-(1-3)= do parenthesis first 1-(-2)=3 <---answer to the denominator

Numerator : 1+(1)=2

so answer = 2/3

is that the right answer?

The answer to this question really depends on the exact formating of the question. If you put the parenthesis in the wrong place, then we wont be able to solve the problem for you. Can you write out the problem exactly as written in the book?

The way you wrote it, you would have to divide the 1/1 first which doesn't make sense. Also why is there parenthesis around that single 1?

with the parentheses the way they are, you should be getting 2/3

(1/1-3) = -2
