I need help on these problems.
1. shopkeeper sold a tv for $3125 with 10% discount made a 8% profit. If no discount was given, what would have been his profit?

2. 6 men take 2days to complete work whereas 4 women take 4 days to complete the same work. How many days will 3 men and 2 women working together take to complete the same work?

3. A footballer tries to reach a ball moving at 3m/s. If he starts running in the same direction 5s after the ball crosse him, at what speed should he run to reach the ball within 5s?

Please show me how to set these up!!
Thanks.

2. If 6 men take 2 days, then 3 men will take 4. simple. so the 3 men complete 1/4 of the job every day.

if 4 women take 4 days, 2 women will take 8 days. simple. so the 2 women will complete 1/8 of the job per day

add the two together to get how much work/ day they do combined. 2/8 (1/4) + 1/8 = 3/8.

if they do 3/8 of work/ day it will take 8/3 days to do the work.

answer: 8/3 days

-If the ball is moving 3 m/s for 5s before he chases it, it means it has gone 15 meters (3 X 5).
-Think of this as relative velocity. He needs to run faster than the ball at a rate fast enough to reach it in 5s. Think of the ball as being a stationary object 15 meters ahead. To do this you have to use a speed of Footballer speed - 3m/s
- Speed X time = distance. Footballer speed is F. F*5 = 15.
-F = 3. So the footballer has to go 3m/s faster than the ball.

3 + 3 = 6 m/s

*** and i dont like the wording in the first problem. its not tough to do, but its not clear what the discount price is.

3125 - 10% ---- 3125 - 312.5 = 2812.5
2812.5 x 8% (or .08) = 225 profit w/10% discount
2812.5 - 225 = cost of item for seller of 2587.5

without discount... 3125 - 2587.5 = $537.5

right? or was the 3125 after the discount? can you copy the problem verbatim?

that's how the problem was worded and the answer was 20%.
I know the wording is really confusing.
