is it just me or are there others who run out of time in this section as well? Anyone have tipssS?? 🙂 🙁

The first time I took the topscore QR, i scored a 19 and missed 3 questions because I ran out of time. The second practice test, I placed a random answer on questions that I know would take some time to compute and marked it for later. I then returned after I had completed the exam, hence i got a 21 on QR with no questions missed. Plus work on doing random calculations, because it helped me a lot. I actually managed to score a 24 on the 3rd QR on topscore because my speed in calculations increased significantly. Basically faster you learn how to computer = more time to check over your work. Plus put stuff in fractions. Instead of using .125, use 1/8 because stuff cancel out.

Hope this helps,
Richard Wong

Keep working at it. Learn how to handle the various types of problems and keep working on your speed. Early on I always ran out of time on Topscore. But the thing is, if you can get up to speed on the Topscore and Kaplan tests, you will have no problem on the real DAT. Just remember, if you are taking to long on a question, MARK it, select and answer (eliminating obvious wrong ones if you can) and move on. Hopefully you'll have time left over to come back to them.

thanks guys, its just those dang word problems, it takes me a while to translate the word problem into a mathematical equation.

just keep doing the same types of word problems over and over...i googled for middle school math problems online, and got a whole bunch of those age and train, etc, word problems

Whatever you do, just make sure that you don't take QR lightly like I did. It will decrease your AA when, really, it should help you. I wish I would have come across someone's post that said not to take QR lightly. Doing well on the QR literally could have made my 18AA to a 20+ AA. Oh well, I'll live with it. Just thought I'd like to share that....
