I have an appointment to talk to a counseler next week, but I've been fussing over these questions and hoped someone could answer:

Does OU have a cut off on how recent their pre-reqs must have been taken? I did my B.S. then immediently went to grad school, so my oldest classes are from 1997.

Do they consider ALL your classes that you've ever taken as your GPA or just the pre-reqs that they require?

Thanks.

I am a graduate student at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and I am currently applying to OU also :meanie: . As far as I know they don't have a cut off date for pre-reqs. They do have a cut off date for PCAT scores. If you are missing any pre-reqs from that pre-req review sheet (on the ouhsc.edu website), you must take those courses this spring semester of 2005 if you are applying for fall of 2005. For the GPA, I'm not sure. I'm hoping that they only calculate the pre-reqs ( gives me a much higher GPA). But when I looked at my online application, They seem to have my total GPA posted (all courses from my B.S. degree and Graduate school too). Sorry I can't help you any futher, but let me know the situation about the GPA calculation after your meeting.

Are you applying to Southwestern? When is the application due date?

Thanks,
Rpettway

Hi! I'm a first year student at OU pharm school. I don't think they have a specific time when prereqs have to be in. There are quite a few older people in my class that went to school many many years ago (like 20!) Also, they use your prereq classes to calculate your GPA.

also interested to know this. My oldest classes are from 1998. Please post what the admissions counselor said. Aany helpful tips about the application process for OU? current students, how do you like it there? I am thinking of applying for 2006. Good luck!!! 🙂

Heres the scoop from my appointment:

I was able to reschedule my meeting with the OUPharmD Counselor, he pretty much just went over my transcripts and told me what classes I needed to take to finish off the pre-pharmacy requirements. The person I spoke to was the only pre-pharmacy counselor for Oklahoma City (there is another in Tulsa).

One thing he did mention is that you can use an introductory computer class rather than just macro/micro econ for your business elective. He also STRONGLY suggested that I take Physiology, even though I already had anatomy, because there is a 5 credit Physiology class your first semester. He also said that having some background experience is extremely helpful towards admission, such as working in a pharmacy or volunteering or the like.

In their first set of interviews they pick people with high PCAT scores (say around 90% and above) and lower end GPA (around a 3.0-3.1) and people with high GPA (I'd think 3.6+) and lower end PCAT (around 60%). Then in their next grouping they pick from the middle.

They only use your pre-pharmacy requirements to calculate gpa, and they average every time you have taken a class. They dont officially prefer people with degrees, but I think unoffically it will help you, especially if you can equate that with maturity and experience, and show a trend of improvement in grades.

The grades thing has me in a goofy place right now because I took organic chemistry so many times that even if I get A's in the four classes I still need to take the highest my GPA can get is around a 3.2. Which is not a very accurate representation of my actual grades, those three F's just really throw off the average. 😕

You could probably get by without taking a phys class. The class had awesome instructors and notes to study. It was basically a memorization class.
