Another ?

do you think we will have to solve quadratic equations by hand? or is there a trick to solving those as well. I was working a problem in the Kaplan book and it requried you to have to solve the problem using a quadratic equation.

What?! LOL, you will NEVER need to use the quadratic equation on the MCAT. It's all about rounding/estimation.

Some people said they had to use it on today's MCAT administration. But you are right that it is extremely rare to see such a weird question. It may even be experimental

I don't know of any trick to solve quadratic, except to rearrange into the ax^2 + bx + c = whatever and then solve by (x-#)(x+#) and set each equal to zero (I'm stretching my memory from grade 11 MATH).

I HIGHLY doubt you will have to solve quadratic equation on the MCAT. But just in case you have to, you can always use the quadratic formula, roots =( -b+/-sqrt(b^2-4ac)/(2a)).

Yep, I thought it would be strange too if I had to use it for the MCAT. I remember the equation from highschool but Kaplan had it being used with like 4.23 x 10-7 numbers and I was like wow this is getting too complicated and time consuming to solve by hand!!!! I am beginning not to care for the new Kaplan books. I have found a ton of errors in the 2009 books!
