Hey guys.

This is my first post and I thought I would ask you guys about my GPA and other qualifications that I have to get into Texas PT schools. I have a 3.53 GPA and a science GPA of around 3.3. I have over 100 hours of volunteer/shadow PT hours. I have not taken a GRE test but I was wondering what score I would need to get into PT schools. I am looking at TWU, UT Southwestern, UTMB, San Antonio, Texas State, UNT Ft Worth and Texas Tech. TWU is where I would like to get into the most and Texas Tech would be my last choice. Is my GPA decent enough to get into these schools? What other things could I do to improve my chances of getting in? My friend had a relative competitive GPA and she did not get in to any PT schools for 2 years. I am just a worried PT applicant 😳.

From the stats you put in so far, I think you're doing well! Try your best on the GRE, write an awesome personal statement, and get some recs. I'm sure you'll have a fighting chance!

If TWU is your top choice, I would suggest trying to improve your GPA, especially your science GPA. What is "over" 100 hours? 120? 130? 180? 200? Try to score the best you can on the GRE. At least a 1000 to be safe? I spoke with some classmates, and some of them got it in in the 1000-1100 range (old test). Get great LORs, make sure you write a great interest letter/personal statement (2 pg limit), and for your hours, get a variety, especially in acute care. Just to let you know, TWU is a very academically rigorous program. I kinda wish I had gone to other schools just cause there's less work and stuff to learn... We always complain about it, but secretly love it. ha

UTSW is a great school, but TWU is better. Hahaha, just PT program rivalry. Anywhere you go in TX, you'll be in great hands.

Thank you guys for the great replies. I am taking them with great appreciation. For the LOR, I really don't have any professors on the top of my head that I could get it from. I really didn't think to make an impression on professors because I didn't assume I would be going to grad school. Now that I am, I wish I went to more office hours etc. Should I get LOR from professors, physical therapists or work related employers?

Howdy! I applied to TWU, Texas Tech, and UTMB. I got accepted to TWU and tech, wait listed for UTMB. My gpa when I applied was at 3.95. It has dropped a bit due to physics.🙁 My GRE score on the other hand was terrible. 870 combined. I had about 150 observation hours and great letters of recommendations. 2 of them were from directors. I also wrote a good letter of interest. I put my whole heart and soul on that paper. I did terrible on the GRE because I didn't study due to my grandmother death. But I still got in with a terrible score.

Depends on your school. One of my application required 3 LOR and the other 2. You should really look at what school you want to. Then make a check list of everything they require, especially the pre req because they are all different.

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother.

That is a really really high GPA. Congrats on getting accepted! I hope to get accepted into TWU as well. Just curious, do you know if there is any openings for me to be a PT intern or something along the lines in the Dallas area? I have had trouble finding any openings.

P.S (Sorry to be such a bother)
Also I have a problem with one of my pre reqs. To fulfill my last pre req for PT schools I will need a biology lab credit. However the University I am currently at has their lectures and labs apart from each other. I am going back to my home town after I graduate in May and will still need that credit. The community colleges and universities at my hometown, combine their biology labs with their lectures. Would I have to retake BIO 1 and 2 just to get 2 hours of lab in? What other options would there be? Again sorry to be so bothersome. I am just a hopeful person trying to be a PT

Ah, no problem. Trust me, I know how it feels to be lost and to have so many question. For the PT intern, I am not sure. I will be going to the Houston campus. I think most places mainly do shadowing. For the Bio credit, you may want to talk to the community college to see if they allow taking the lab. Or you may have to retake. Try to get in touch with the schools for more information.
