Ive been using Kaplan but I doubt questions like these will be on the test. It has complicated practice problems that require the use of calculators (calculator not required for PCAT). Whats up with this? Should I try to get a different book, or will the Kaplan book suffice for the PCAT?

All of the problems in the math section of the KAPLAN book and all of the problems on the Quant section on the actual PCAT can be done without a calculator.
1. Know your algebra, geometry, pre cal, and calculus good.
2. Practice problems in the KAPLAN book and in other books to gain speed.

If you have a good understanding for the sections of math, and you practice these problems to gain speed, you will be fine on the actual PCAT

The Kaplan section has a more stringent time constraint than the actual test.
I found I could only finish if I alowed an extra 10 minutes in the Kaplan.
I got an 87 in the real test.
I found I was better off skipping around to do the easier problems first, and I guessed in many problems. Also practice speed. Repeat the problem even if you have done it before, just for speed.
Honestly I didn't feel so good about this section right afterwards. So I was pleasently surprised by my score.

Is it necessary to memorize all of those formulas for volume of shapes?

Yes, at least the easy ones.
My daughter is in 7th grade and she knows them, so...
I think it's fair game. (even though she says she forgot them, but she knew them not too long ago)

Usi,
Okay, how about conversion problems -to and fro- inches, pound, kilograms, yards etc. Are those abundant in the really test?

I spent a whole afternoon doing those, and I don't remember if they where in the test.
I hate the english system since I grew up outside of the US. I learned the metric. system.
I honestly don'r remember any on the test.

Thanks! I grew up outside US too. So I agree with you on that, it's difficult to keep both systems straight. Let's hope there's no such question on the test.
