The opted.org says something about a calculator for the quantitiative reasoning section. Is that happening right now or is that going to be in effect later?

If you read all the way to the very last page of the testing guide it specifies May 4th. Unfortunately, I read all but the last two pages and was expecting one this weekend. 😳 For me there was a big difference in my score between practicing w/ a calculator and taking the test w/o one mainly because I was not fast enough at solving some of the long division stuff by hand, and I ended up running out of time. I have heard from a friend who took the DAT that she studied without one and adjusting to the on screen calculator ended up slowing her down. Be sure you know whether or not the calculator will be available to you on your test date and practice accordingly.

can someone give me any direction in studying for geometry for quant. reasoning..i dont want to get a geometry book and teach myself the whole book because thats over kill..any advice!

Well, it really depends on how good you are at geometry. Some students are quite slow when it comes to setting up and solving, for example, trig. problems, whereas others can do them quite rapidly. As I'm sure you know by now, speed is everything on this section. The only general advice I can give is to make sure you're quite comfortable with trig. and area problems by practicing as much as is necessary. Common right triangle ratios (such as 3:4:5 or 5:12:13, also be aware of multiples, such as 10:24:26), common area/volume equations, and trig. identities are all important to study. If you want more specific advice, then try posting a question or two on here that seems to give you some trouble (even if you can solve it eventually) and then we can do our best to explain how to efficiently go about solving it.
