Quarters vs Semesters

Could someone please explain to me how a quarter system works? I'm only familiar with semester.

Which do you think you would prefer and why?

From my understanding the quarter system just means you have 4 portions to the year instead of two or three. every season gets its own semester. depends on your study habits you might like one over the other. some school also use a module/block system and others have a combo of the block system with a semseter system... realy up to you and how you study best...

Quarters seem to be more prevalent on the west coast than the east coast. Went from a quarter university to a semester one and I haven't seen much of a noticeable difference. You only have time to focus on each week as it comes.
