The perihepatitis (Fitz-Curtis et. al. Syndrome) that can accompany PID...

If shown a picture of the liver in a pt w/ PID, what are the liver findings (violin-strings) actually composed of?

1. Fibrin
2. Fibronectin
3. Laminin
4. Who cares?

fibrin is clots, so i'd say no. laminin i don't know what it is, so i'd say no to that too. my guess is fibronectin.

um ok, not to panic or anything, but I didnt know pid had accompanying liver sx... and i have no idea about this fitz syndrome. should i be freaking out...

laminin is in an EC protein like fibronectin but I think it's commonly in the BM, not sure.

don't freak out. fitz-hugh-curtis syndrome is just inflammation of the liver capsule. it happens with PID. that's all you need to know.

Fibrin. Just like you can get a fibrinous exudate in the pericardium with infection, you are getting a fibrinous exudate over the liver with the infection spreading there. Alright, now to look it up in BRS to be sure I'm right....ummm it's not in the index. Oh well.

The answer I put is Fibrin and I think it's correct.

i had a question about the testing centers:

-can you bring earplugs?
-can you wear a baseball cap?
-and how much earlier before scheduled time did you arrive?

Earplugs - depends on the center. Some do (mine did) some provide their own.

Caps - no headgear except for religious reasons, in which case they will have you fill out a special form.

Arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled time.

Imtiaz: Actually, that's not all you need to know (trust me)...

So would you be able to use something like tPA to break up those fibrin deposits. i.e. are they like the blood clots where plaminogen is built in, in order to destroy the clot later. I think there was a nbme, or q-bank, or released question about that pertaining to Dressler's syndrome. I can't remember, there were so many ?s!!!

As far as w/ tPA, I don't know if that would work, as the fibrinous process that occurs with the liver-PID thing and pericarditis is extravascular. tPA, to my knowledge, works intravascularly.
