Just out of curiosity...this may be kind of a lame question, but...do people tend to gain or lose weight during third year. My first year of med school I gained about 10 pounds...I got more exercise during second year, but only managed to stop gaining. I know it mostly had to do with the excessive amount of sitting on my a$$ during the first couple of years. However, will it be easier to drop pounds during 3rd year from all the running around the hospital?

I lost 15 pounds doing surgery and OB back to back but gained it all back in medicine where I found myself in the cafeteria more than just about anywhere else. 😀 Prob also depends on how big the hospital is and if you take the stairs.

I lost about 15 pounds over my 3rd year. Ten pounds were during my first 8 weeks on surgery. Some people gain weight though. Less time to go to the gym and more eating out. It probably depends on what your body is used to. I was on my a$$ a lot as well 1st & 2nd year, so all the running around on clinical rotations was an increase in activity for me.

I gained 10 pounds over 3rd year. I think it has to do with stress + lack of time + hospital food. The only time I was running around enough to lose weight was during a week of 16 hour overnight OB shifts. Then I lost a almost 1 pound/day.
