Hey all! I have a question for anyone who is more knowledgeable than me! I have had several clients ask about a product that you sprinkle on dogs food that is supposed to help with the staining from their tears. I think it is called Angel tears or Angel eyes. All of the veterinarians at our practice haven't used it so I don't have a good answer for the clients. I hope I wont get in trouble for asking for advice but I thought I would give it a shot! Thanks! 🙂

Most of these products contain tylosin. It works similar to tetracycline. The theories are it (1) decreases the viscosity of tears, letting more flow into the nasolacrimal duct, (2) binds the porphyrins in tears that cause the staining.

I think smartpak cells them in the canine section. www.smartpak.com
I don't know much about them though!

I don't know much about the product because all my vets don't like it (or any other oral tear-stain drugs) and they won't recommend it to our clients. I will try to remember to ask why specifically.

1. You should NOT have an answer if you are talking to clients in a veterinary hospital that the veterinarians themselves do not have an answer to, that is giving medical advice.

2. Yes you are asking for medical advice😉

Seeing as you have been admitted to vet school already, why not post this on VIN? It is an appropriate site for your question.
