1)

Is it optional?

2) So let's say I told them back in Spring that'd it'd be taking say, molecular biology, and put it under "planned" for Fall 2010 but now I've decided to take it Winter 2011 or Spring 2011. In this situation, would I be forced to do this academic update?

3) I took Spring 2010 classes but didn't do so well....I guess this goes back to Question 1....and I really don't wanna report them. Help moi.

Merci 🙂

ummmm what i think is, if on your adea aadsas application, when you applied, if you listed certain courses in your coursework and put that they were "in progress" or "plan to" (or whatever the options are) i'm assuming schools are waiting (or would potentially want to see if they like your application) for an academic update for those particular courses since you were the one who wanted to list them on your app because you wanted them to know about it. Which in the end means, you wanted them to see your grade otherwise you wouldnt have listed it.
If you didnt list any of these courses on your actual application as "in progress" or w/e, then sure, dont do an academic update, who cares. Its not mandatory, i got the email from adea today talking about the update, you probably got it too. also, in the email it said you may edit your in progress courses for the spring and summer so maybe you can just edit it and put that....you never ended up taking the courses so you dont need to report the grades?
uh sorry for confusing you.

If you haven't received an interview at this point, I don't see how delaying the Academic Update or choosing not to do it is going to help you. You can edit your "planned/in progress" section so that you can include molecular biology for Spring 2011 instead of Fall 2010, but I would suggest to you that you include your Spring 2010 grades and whatever other grades you may have. There is no point in waiting...dental schools are eventually going to ask for your final transcript before you matriculate anyways.

Yeah that's fine and all but the whole point is that doing the academic update will do more harm than good. I only put certain courses as "planned" because that was my best information, at that time. So what do I do now?

Well the only other thing you could do is wait until January 14 (the last date the Update period is open) and submit your information then. You can wait it out until then and see if you get any interviews after December rolls around. But I don't think you're chances are too great if you wait that long. Otherwise, not really sure what else you can do besides just editing your planned courses at this point (but then you won't be able to use the Update later on since you can only use it once).

So you're prescription is to take the hit and submit the academic change?

Well, if you're not getting any interviews by now then the schools are probably waiting until your academic update to make a decision. Delaying the update isn't going to help in the slightest. Just submit it already.

But in this case, the update will actually hurt me.

Not giving them your update doesn't seem to be helping, so why not. If they don't like your application now, updating will be the only change you can do, so really, isn't that your only option?

Yeah good point. I'm just really...what's the world....anxious. I mean, I have no interviews yet. I have 3 rejections. I haven't heard (in terms of secondaries from NYU, USC, UoP, Boston, Maryland and Harvard).

I don't get what they're waiting for. I got secondaries from Western, ASDOH, USC, UCLA, UCSF.

I hate this.

Ummm....maybe it's because they don't have secondaries.

what kind of secondary did you get from usc? I never received any info about that besides their fee

I'll just be honest; maybe they are just hoping for higher stats and to see that you could bring your grades up.

Not to hijack OPs thread but I had a question as well. I have gotten 2 interviews and I graduated this past may. I listed for planned courses that I was going to take Anatomy/Phys and Microbio Lab Fall 2010 (now) but I missed the deadline to reapply to my institution as non-degree Grad. I'm taking these classes in the Spring now, everything is confirmed. Should I update my AADSAS? or wait till Dec 1st?

I don't think it really matters in your case as long as you are happy with the two schools you interviewed at. If you wanted additional ones, it might matter, but at this point, it might just be fine to wait until December 1st and then alert the schools of your plans.

Sorry. I mis-typed. I didn't get anything from USC, just their fee.

Alright guys, well I guess this means I'll go get the transcript matching form and all. Here goes my science GPA! FML!

The academic update can really show that you put your heart into your studies and 4.0'd your classes for the semester. Unfortunately from what it sounds like, that was not the case. Lo Siento Mi Amigo. 🙁

I want to submit my update, but not all my grades have come in yet. I'm waiting on one course!

Besides that, the courses I was taking are not pre-reqs. I hope this doesn't delay a decision for me! :scared:😕

I am really hoping to show off my 18 credit 4.0 fall grades to get me more interviews! Currently I only have 1 in december! 😳

Would anyone suggest just e-submitting right now and writing all 4.0 before I get the grade? I am 90% confident that I will be able to succeed in doing this. If I get 1 B or something ADEA will fix it right? Or is there no difference in submitting now or in late december?

But don't you have to send another Transcript Matching Form and transcript from your university? If you e-submit now, there is no way for AADSAS to verify your grades. You need to wait until your fall transcript becomes available.
