I graduated and currently work full time as a clinical researcher at UT Southwestern. My boss wants me to audit a clinical sciences class this summer that will end in August. It seems like an awesome class, and the whole class is made up of physicians trying to get a masters in their free time. In order to take this course, I had to turn in an application to the clinical sciences department. I will be getting a student ID and the whole bit. Should I include this course on my applications? Also, if I am only auditing one class will I have to turn in a transcript?? There’s no grade so I wouldn’t think it’s a big deal if I don’t include it, but it’s from an accredited university. Plus I’m technically only taking it for work purposes. On one hand, I want to include it because I think saying that I am taking a class at UTSW will look good, but this may actually hurt my applying early plan. I’m seriously done with my applications and I am just waiting to turn them in. So what should I do? Or do I even have a choice?

Bump... Seriously! I need some sort of advice...

I guess it depends on whether your taking this course will generate a transcript in the UTSW registrar's office. You'll have to call them to ask.

If you will have a transcript, even if it only lists the one class without a grade, list it as a future course you plan to take, so that you can submit your apps now and send in the transcript after the fact.

If there will not be a transcript, then don't list it except as an EC for professional development.

You mentioned AMCAS, but as you're from Texas, I hope you are also submitting the TMDSAS. Hope you have a good app cycle. . .

Thanks! I guess I will have to include it then... Yes, I am applying to all three services, TMDSAS, AACOMAS and AMCAS.

Usually, classes taken as part of a work continuing education are talked about in the job description.

I didn't even think about this! I will have to include it there also. Thanks!
