I know that most people probably only know as much as the ATSU-Mesa website tells us, but could someone clear up what this nationwide program is where you start rotating 2nd year?

From what I understand:
1st is like a regular class lecture year
2nd is a mix between class and clinical experience time
3-4 is rotating at different community clinics across the country, mainly underserved areas

So does this mean a TON of traveling to do rotations? Sounds like it to me.

Do student have a say as to where they're rotating?

Do they provide us with any housing since we're changing locations practically every month?

I mean as much as I love the idea of an integrated class/clinical curriculum I'm not crazy about the whole jumping from one rural/urban area to another for 2-3 years.

In the 2nd year, classes will be integrated into clinical at an assigned Community Health Center(During the interview, you will rank from a list of 11 sites to which you will be during 2-4th year) Rotations are in clinics and hospitals at your site so you won't be traveling much. However, if you are interested in rotations at different sites during your 4th year, you will have to travel.

so...they have you rank your preferred sites at the interview or they rank you? Hmmm, I am very curious as to how this will work. And yes, please spill 😀

You will rank the list and return it withing 7 days of the interview(all of these sites are rural and underserved areas) Then, when you are accepted, they will tell you your site from your ranking of the list.

So really, students will be spending very little time in Mesa, AZ.

Students only spend 2 semesters in Mesa then are shipped off to community health clinics around the country. The community health clinics may or may not be your first choice of where you want to go. Also, the school is really primary health care oriented so not a whole lot of time is spent on subjects like anatomy. Rotations will only be done in community health clinics, no hospitals.

At the interview, they told us that you will stay at your assigned CHC from year 2-4th, and rotations will be in clinics as well as hospitals in that area. You will be required to come back to Mesa after your 2nd year to study for the board and a few other times. You will not be rotating from CHC to CHC around the country; with the exception that you request to do some rotations at other CHC during your 4th year, then you will have to travel. But even that, you are limited to only several rotations outside of your CHC, and that is only allowed in your 4th year(like electives).

I was told when I called that there would not be hospital rotations, so that is good to know. 👍
