So it goes without saying that Baylor is a tremendous ophthalmology program, but does anyone know how the Baylor-Methodist squabble/split (see http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3048042#) has affected the ophtho program, if at all? I'll be interviewing there but don't want to bring up this potentially sore subject and was hoping that one of you has some inside information. Good luck in the coming weeks!

of course, i think you should talk to someone on the inside, but to me, what makes baylor/cullen such a "tremendous" ophthalmology training program has less to do with the relationship between baylor and methodist (or lack there of), but much more to do with the tremendous clinical and surgical volume that the residents receive at their county facility (ben taub, i think it's called) and their VA. i wouldn't be too shy in asking these type of questions when you interview. it shows that you you've done your homework and have a genuine interest in the program. good luck. it's a nice time of year to be in houston and the houston medical center is very impressive.

Baylor Eye will be relatively unaffected by the Methodist-Baylor split. Baylor residents & staff continue to take call for Methodist, operate within Methodist and run clinics in Methodist's clinical buildings (Smith & Scurlock). This will continue at least until Baylor Eye finds a new home in phase II of Baylor's own clinic buildings. Even then, Baylor Eye will probably still maintain a working relationship with Methodist. Heck, McPherson practically built that hospital grossing more income for the hospital than DeBakey!! If you are interested in Baylor....trust me. Everything will be fine.
