I was waitlisted at my goal school and saw some people on reddit recommend reaching out to the admissions staff to express interest in the program/gratitude for consideration. Can anyone vouch for doing that? Would that be a good idea to do?

Write a letter of intent!

Yes! Never hurts to express gratitude and reach out to the program to show your intent and desire to attend there. Not sure how much it’ll actually help you get off the waitlist, but at least you’re letting them know you seriously want to attend their program.

I've worked with several students who have done this and then gotten in. The worst case situation is that it doesn't help you. A school isn't going to not admit you because you've sent them a polite email letting them know you want to go to the school.

Absolutely do it, you paid to apply there, so it's only in your best intention to do so.
