Question about Biology Sequence

Hello,

So I'm a bit confused about what med schools mean when they say one year of Biology. At my school, science students usually take BIO 11: Cell/Molecular Bio and BIO 12: Organismal and Population Bio for their degree requirements (that's the sequence).

However, I took a class called BIO 1: General Biology because I thought that was what the medical schools required. My question is, if I take BIO 1 + BIO 11, will that satisfy the prereqs for medical school?

I took a gen bio, principles of bio (basically a more in depth version of gen), and then a bunch of upper level bio classes like cell, genetics, aging, cancer. I think it all (any two) works. To be sure though, it wouldn't hurt to contact the app services (AMCAS and AACOMAS).

It comes down to each medical school and what they will accept. But I have yet to run across one that explicitly states that you must have gen bio. I used physiology to satisfy my 2nd bio course since I've never had gen bio 2.

My UG didn't have a bio 1 and bio 2. It's a very well known, well established state school. If that didn't fly for any of the schools I was interested in, I'd sooner cut my losses than accommodate.

It will probably be okay if the units add up to what you need at the school, but you're far better off taking the BIO 12 course to avoid any problems. My school was similar. I took the Organismal class and thought it was cake after the cell/molecular class.

I haven't come across a school that was too picky with that. My UG didn't have a regular Bio major, so there was no "gen bio" course available. I applied with cell bio courses and didn't have any issues with my courses not counting towards the biology requirement, as long as they were listed under the bio category. I think the only specific requirement I remember was KCUMB's genetics requirement, as they won't take any genetics course.

There are usually analogous courses to two semesters of general biological topics. My school doesn't have "Bio I and II" outside of the "for non-science majors" umbrellas, but they do have General Botany and General Zoology. I imagine Cell Bio and Micro count towards the same thing.
