Hi, this question is for current buffalo students. I was just wondering if you guys find your class to be very cut-throat in competitiveness. Do people generally want to specialize and if so, and this is my main question, do Buffalo grads typically match into the specialty they want?

My classmates are not competitive or cut throat at all, it's a very family like feel. A couple have made it known that they want to specialize and they study like crazy to that end, but there's no sabotage or anything going on. Whether grads usually match I don't know the answer to that question, maybe call the school?

Those that still want to specialize by 4th year tend to get in to a program, provided that they performed well enough during school. Each class is different, but they tend to not be too competitive. Most people help one another out and work together to a degree, especially during the first 2 years.

No matter where you go, whether you are able to specialize will be up to how hard YOU work for it. Your classmates won't have a big effect on whether or not you match. If you expect to have grades good enough to match to a competitive specialty, expect to work very hard. People do it every year...from each of the dental schools.
