Does anyone know if at Nova you have to take your classes with med students or not? And if so, do you have to take ur exams with them too?

From what I remember we will have a couple of classes with the med students such as anatomy. As far as testing with them I have no idea.

My wife went to Nova and you take classes with more than the med school. You also take them with optometry and a few other health divison professions

That sounds fun, a little mix. I'm wondering if everything is online there, like powerpoint, and if we need to bring laptops to class?

Im interested to find out how current Nova students feel about taking their classes with med students. Ive heard people say that it is misirable as you have to learn more material than is pertanant to dentistry. Is this true?

I remember one of the guys said during my interview tour that all of their books are on their laptop.

That is good to know. Just jogged my memory and I remember hearing the same thing. Saves us some back problems down the road. 😉

When I started at Nova the laptop thing was still new so we didn't get the books and notes on our computer. The D1's last year did get all of there books on DVD and I believe everyone was happy with it. As far as shared classes, we did share classes with the meds and optometry students: such as anatomy, neuroanatomy, pharm, path, and histology. This wasnt an issue. I don't think they teach us any more than at other schools that don't use this system. Unfortunately we have to learn a lot of information in many classes that we probably will not use again. It makes us more well rounded clinicians. I think there may have been another question but I've forgotten what it was, so that's it for now.

How big is research at Nova? I want to go into endodontics and at my interview told them this and also asked if I could do research my first year. They said I'd be too busy with coursework but that a few students do this and it would benefit me greatly if I were to infact specialize. Do you have any advice on this? On the endo program there? Thanks.

Doug

Has anyone gotten their packets yet? If so, what's in them?

Unfortunately I don't know much about research at Nova. I do know that people are selected each year to participate in summer research programs, but I'm not sure what it is they entail. As far as time for research, it varies. There are times when you wish you had more to do, but then midterms and finals role around and there really isn't time for anything else....Because of this the summer research programs might be your best option. Sorry I can't help more 😳

Incoming NSUCDM students... School is just a few months away. What are you guys doing to prepare? Anyone found a place to live? Any news from Nova lately? I guess I'm just a little anxious to start.

Housing is a b****. I cant find anything without a waitlist. All the open ones are 1 bedroom which run 1100.

I am preparing by drinking every thursday, friday and saturday.

All the apartments I am finding are asking for financial aid award verification or a co-signer who makes 5 times the rent of the apartment each month. Are you guys running into the same problems? This is really crazy!!

Really! What apartments? Everywhere I saw said they would allow a co-signer only to make up for if you had no prior rental history. Yeah, it's crazy expensive down there and the aparments aren't nearly as nice as where I'm living now. 🙁

please see the ad that i placed about housing if you are interested. 🙂
